Compliance Monitoring Officer, Ireland @ Kraken
1d - Develop and implement a comprehensive compliance monitoring and testing programme to assess the institution's adherence to internal policies and external regulations
- Conduct regular reviews and assessments to identify potential areas of non-compliance

- Strong second-line Compliance experience in a previous senior position at a regulated MiFiD investment firm, MTF, bank, crypto exchange or payments firm
- Knowledge of AMLD’s, CJA, EMR and PSD2
- Experience in relation to VASP registrations
- Experience managing complex, global compliance projects
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze risk and apply sound judgment in a timely manner
- Practical knowledge of compliance risk management techniques
- Proactive, strategic, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, bias for action
- Strategic financial crimes and markets compliance experience

7d - Responsibility for the ongoing compliance of PIL with all applicable regulatory requirements
- Develop and oversee the Compliance Monitoring Programme
- Oversee the implementation of new regulatory requirements as they arise and assisting with horizon scanning (in close cooperation with colleagues from the Strategy and Regulatory teams)

- Manage Indirect Tax (VAT/GST) compliance processes to ensure timely and accurate tax filings in the jurisdictions that Kraken operates in.
- Work with our external advisors, review deliverables and ensure accuracy of tax returns
- Coordinate and work with other teams of the Finance Department, e.g. work with Treasury to ensure tax payments are made, work with Accounts Payable to ensure correct tax codes are used, and answer any queries on VAT/GST invoices.
- Involvement in process improvements and automation projects and ensure indirect tax processes are up to date and documented
- Work with the wider Tax team on ad-hoc compliance and advisory projects.
- Assisting with statutory audits in relation to VAT/GST, and audits/enquiries raised by tax authorities.
- Supporting with external adviser spend and tracking
- 3+ years experience in VAT accounting / compliance in EU jurisdictions.
- Excellent data analysis skills and working in large datasets
- Well versed in Excel, able to work in and maintain complex spreadsheets
- Ability to coordinate, prioritize workload and keep to tight deadlines
- Previous experience in Netsuite, Superset, Tableau
- Previous exposure in the FinTech/Crypto industry
- Previous exposure in Digital Services Taxes

The team
The Compliance Monitoring Officer is responsible for executing the firm's Compliance and Monitoring Programme. This will involve reviewing processes, risks and controls, identifying control effectiveness, control gaps and subsequent remediation plans, and conducting compliance monitoring reviews from initiation to completion. You will also recommend control improvements that add value to Payward Ireland (PIL), provide advice to the business on the appropriateness and effectiveness of controls and the application of rules, standards, regulations and PIL's/Kraken's compliance policies and procedures, and undertake other key compliance function tasks as required by management.
The successful candidate will be a key figure in Kraken’s 2nd Line Compliance function within the European Regional Operations team. You will report to the Head of Compliance, Ireland and will focus on all aspects of regulatory compliance across our European legal entities from our base in Ireland. You will also have primary responsibility for the Compliance Monitoring and Testing Program for Irish and European Operations of Kraken. You will help to steer the business to bring products to market and navigate evolving crypto and traditional finance laws and regulations.
This role will be located in Ireland.
