Rift is a remote-first, global tech startup with a New York City office.

We are building at the cutting edge of Web3 and DeFi, developing a computing platform that allows smart contracts to control resources outside the domain of blockchains, helping entities in the crypto domain become “real world” actors.

We are developing this platform following the launch of our first decentralized app, Rift.Finance, which has already processed over $70M leading to our $18M Series A fundraise from top investors including Pantera, Two Sigma Ventures, Coinbase Ventures alongside angel investors including Stani Kulechov (founder of Aave), Sandeep Nailwal (cofounder of Polygon) and more.

We are looking for outstanding Software Engineers to help us:

• Develop our core software stack from the design stage all the way to production ready implementations.
• Design crypto-economic protocols for coordinating agents in distributed networks.
• Improve the design of peer’s architecture through thoughtful feedback.
• Contribute to open-source projects and play a role in building out the crypto ecosystem at large.
• Develop SDKs that abstract away the complexity of our software stack into a simplified user-friendly toolkit.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in a backend software engineering role.
• Significant experience with a systems language like Go (preferred), Rust, or C++.
• Extensive experience managing the software development life cycle for medium to large projects.
• Experience building and maintaining a production system at scale.
• Experience with AWS, GCP or similar cloud providers.
• Basic knowledge/ interest in Web3/ DeFi.

• Senior Backend Engineer

Primary responsibilities

• Build a feature-rich execution environment for Ethereum Virtual Machine based blockchains
• Add features to our simulation environment based on user feedback
• Contribute to the design and development of a modular and extensible codebase
• Lead discussions with product and design to rapidly iterate, experiment and launch products
• Design and build systems with an eye for performance & scalability
• Contribute to open source projects and play a role in building out the crypto ecosystem.

First 90 Days

• Familiarize yourself with our current stack and products, the smart contract / web3 dapp development process, and any other necessary components of the role such as the dynamics of the EVM, or picking up Rust. Contribute new features to our execution environment for Ethereum Virtual Machine based blockchains.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years working as a professional software engineer
• Significant experience with a systems language like Rust (preferred), Go, or C++
• Experience working with and/or developing asynchronous systems
• Familiarity building and managing Microservices in a production environment
• Experience building SDKs, APIs, or otherwise building and maintaining a production system at scale.
• Experience with AWS, GCP or similar cloud providers
• Deep understanding of the architecture of modern applications
• Desire to keep up with modern best practices in software development/crypto, and shape our tech stack as we build out new systems and services
• A passion for technology and learning modern best practices in web development.  
• You have an innate curiosity about Digital Assets, Web3, DeFi and the Blockchain.
• You strive for excellence, play as a team and take pride in what you do.

And it would be great if you have

• Experience using Rust for production systems
• Experience scaling out infra for distributed services
• Proficiency in database optimization
• Deep understanding of the Ethereum Virtual Machine
